Acclimatisation.—A consignment of threo hundred young brown trout, which are to be liberated in the streams in the Ashburton County, were received in Ashburton from the Christchurch Acclimatisation Society on Saturday. TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO. (From “Guardian,” Sept. 24, 1910). Rifle Shooting.—Results of the shooting in the miniature rifle match between the Banks and Professions and the Auctioneers were:—Banks and Professions : Cook 64, Hair 62, Burnard 62, Gresham 61, Percy 53, Robertson 57, Cowan 54, Campbell 53, Naylor 57, Brnce 49; total 572. Auctioneers: Church 67, Barker 64, Cardale 6*2, Thomas 60, Denshire 57, Robertson 56, Roberts 55, McKeegan 53, McFarlane 53, Killoh 51 ; total 578. The Grasslands.—Judging by the large area’that will be sown down in grass-seed l and clovers this season, it is evident that quite a large number of farmers are so sanguine in respect of the future reliableness of the wool and frozen meat market for some time to come as to be induced to revert to sheep-farming. A number of farmers state that they have been prompted to slacken off grain growing in consequence of the high rate of wages demanded by workmen, but it would appear that the chief cause is due to the unremunerative values ruling for wool and mutton and to the fact that a comparatively large tract of land has been overcropped and is in need of a rest.
