HIGHLAND PIPE BANDS
NEW SHIELD FOR COMPETITION (Special to the “Guardian.”) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. A meeting of the Canterbury-West Coast Centre of the Highland Pipe Bands’ Association of New Zealand was held recently. Mr R. Will was appointed to succeed Mr C. S. Thomas as the centre’s representative on the executive. The following officials were appointed for the Pipe Band section at the forthcoming Amberley contests: —Judge of music, Mr W. Budge (Mataura); judge of dress, Mr J. Allan (Dunsandel); liandicappers, Messrs G. M. Teller and G. McAllister. The offer of Mr R. MacDonald, manager of the Andrews Twine Company, Waikukiij of a challenge shield to be awarded to the pipe band gaining highest points in the Canterbury Provincial Bands’ Association contests, was accepted, and it was decided to send a letter of appreciation to Mr MacDonald.
The following were appointed as representatives at the centre’s meetings: Waimate Highland Pipe Band and Ashburton County Pipe Band, Mr G. McAllister; Temuka Pipe Band, Mr J. MacDonald; Timaru Highland Pipe Band, Mr G. Sey.
