BEGGING LETTERS

TO WINNER OF £12,000.

CAR AND RADIO CATALOGUES. (Special to the “Guardian.”) AUCKLAND, September 20. “Until I won the sweepstake I did not realise how many beggars there were in the world,” said Mr C. H. Iv. Mountain, of Newmarket, to-day. Mr Mountain received advice earlier in the week that he had won £12,000 in a Tasmanian consultation.

“In the last three days I have received letters from over three dozen people who want some of my £12,000, Mr Mountain stated. “Some of them make a direct request for cash sums; some want me to go into partnership with them in all types of business deals, while others want me to take over mortgages on unproductive farms. Numbers of letters also have come from various charitable organisations. One widow, who wrote asking for a donation, ended' her letter with the Scriptural quotation, ‘Ask and ye sha .receive.’ Letters have come from us far north as Whangarei, and as far south as Taranaki.” .

Mr Mountain said lie had been visited by about 65 salesmen representing motor-car dealers, radio firms, sliaie and bond brokers, and land agents. He bad acquired a large library of car catalogues and literature about radio sets and other products. A firm of city land agents wanted him to buy a largo house and property for £5500 cash.

Mr Mountain states that if he wins another sweepstake he will leave on the first steamer for America and stay there until the excitement is o\er.
