GAOL FOR ASSAULT
ATTACK ON A CONSTABLE.
MAN ARMED WITH PICKET

GREYMOUTH, This Day. Adam Pirrie, aged 31, of Blackball, was sentenced to three weeks’ imprisonment for assaulting Constable Patterson.
The police stated that Constable Patterson at 11.15 p.m. on Saturday called at the Blackball Hotel, and was admitted by the licensee. He walked through the premises to tho backyard, where accused was ambushed, and armed with a picket from a fence. Accused aimed a blow at the constable’s head, but Constable Patterson saw it coming, and received the blow on the arm. He grappled with accused, and both struggled in the ground. Other men arrived, apparently to assist the accused. The constable called for the licensee, who prevented an ugly situation.
