THE ITALIAN COMMUNIQUE.
CAREFUL CONSIDERATION GIVEN. VITAL EIGHTS AND INTERESTS. ROME, September 21. Italy lias rejected the proposals made hy the Committee of Five for a settlement of the dispute with Abyssinia.. A communique states that the Council oi Ministers met under the presidency of Signor Mussolini, who made a full report, lasting an hour, on the political and military situation as it has developed in the last few days. He then read and commented on the report made by Senor Madariaga (chairman of the Conciliation Commission) to Baron Aloisi. The Council of Ministers carefully examined the committee’s proposals and, while it appreciated the committee’s efforts, considered the proposals unacceptable, as they did not offer a sufficient minimum basis for a conclusive realisation which would finally and effectively take account of the vital rights and interests of Italy. The Council of Ministers will reassemble on Tuesday in order to follow developments in the political situation. The Government issued the text of the committee’s proposals, which follow the forecast published in Britain on Thursday. Italian comment is that the proposals do not refer to Italy’s interests, as recognised by treaties.
