HOLDER’S TRIBUTE TO AMERICANS. United Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, September 19. Sir Malcolm Campbell, who at- the Utah Salt Flats on September 3 broke the world’s land speed record, arrived at Southampton in the liner Majestic, and was welcomed by the Mayor. The American Ambassador in 'London (Mr Robert W. Bingham) who travelled on the same boat, joined 1 in the ceremony, and paid a warm tribute to Sir Malcolm Campbell, whose achievement, he .said, was respected and admired in the United States.
In reply Sir Malcolm Campbell expressed bis thanks for the perfect organisation and friendly help piovidcd by the Americans, and described the record as an “Anglo-American .achievement because wo had to go to America to find a suitable course.” British Official Wireless.
