FIFTY YEARS SYNE. (From “Guardian,” Sept. 21, 1885). Temperance Union.—A meeting of the Rakaia Gospel Temperance Union was held in the Oddfellows’ Hall, the Rev. Air Stewart in the chair. Songs were very well given hv Alisses R. Blruce, Peryman and Arnold, and by Air W.’ H. Shephard. Each of the performers received an encore. Recitations were given by Alisses K. Thompson, K. Santy, A. Smith, !L.; Allright, K. Lobb, and Masters Bryant and 1 Shannon. The invitation to don the blue was responded to by eight adults. Aliss It. Bruce was at the piano.

Tinwald. Town Board.—This Board met on Friday evening, when there were present Alessrs C. Reid (chairman), W. Houston, and W. Bickerstaff. It was .resolved, on the motion of Air Houston, to strike a rate of 8d in the £ on all the rateable property in the district. Wesleyan Church.—Office-bearers of the Ashburton Wesleyan Church met at Air Robert Alcorn’s residence, the Rev. D. AlcNicholl presiding. The bal-ance-sheet showed that the circuit debt had greatly increased during the last three mouths. It was decided to push the envelope .system more vigorously, the chairman and Air Alcorn undertaking to wipe out the debt. . The Revs. I). AlcNicholl and T. J. Wallis received cordial invitations to remain a second 1 year in the circuit.

TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO. (From “Guardian,” Sept. 21, 1910).* Willowhy Cricket Club.—Mr J. Watson presided over the annual meeting ’of the Willow by Cricket Club. The report stated that the batting prize had been won by Air F. Frampton and the bowling prize by Air F. Crossman. On the vote of members the prize for the player showing greatest smartness on the field went to Mr Leo Stoddart. The following officers were elected : Patrons, Mr E. B. Ntewton, Mr W. Nosworthy, AI.P., Air John Girgg, Air S. S. Chapman, and Air John Studholme; president, Mr J. W. Stoddart; vice-presidents, Messrs H. Frampton, J. Watson, W. J. Aloses, A. S. Hayman, H. Chapman, AY. T. Lill, and the Rev. S. H. D. Peryman; captain, Air Leo Stoddart; vice-captain, Air F. Frampton; secretary and treasurer, Air N. H. Griffiths: committee, Messrs George Chapman, Hi. Dollman, Fred. Crossman and A. Lill.* Messrs L. Stoddart, F. Frampton and H. Griffiths were appointed to arrange for a iground. Town Board Elections.—Polling for members of the Hampstead and Tinwald Town Board stock place yesterday and results were as follow:—Hampstead—Alessrs R. AY. Crowther, R. F. Lewis, H. A. Lloyd, SI.
