ACRES INUNDATED
FLOODS IN THE WAIRARAPA.
(Per Press Association.) MASTERTON, September 20. Several thousand acres of land at Kahutara, adjoining Wairarapa Lake, are inundated on account of flood watei in the Ruamahunga Rive] 1 finding its way through a breach in a stop bank made four months ago, and this was further accentuated by a gale on Wednesday washing out sandbags filling the Oporoa bank, which allowed the lake waters to flow on to nearby land.
Both the lake and! river waters are now falling, and the position is improving, but it will be some days before the lands are free of water.
