Tile Hon. J. Bitehener (Minister of Public Works) was a passenger by the south-bound express tnis morning.
The Hon. Adam Hamilton (Postmas-ter-General) was a passenger for Invercargill by the express train this morning.
Mrs F. W. Seldon (president of the Ashburton Plunket Society) will represent the society at the biennial conference of societies to be held at Wellington next week.
Miss Joan Edith Sheehan, of Ashburton, a pupil of Miss N. Bishop, has passed with honours in the preparatory elocution examination held in Christchurch recently under the auspices of the Trinity College of Music.
At a special meeting of the Waihi Hospital Board, five applications for the position of matron were considered. Miss May Currie, head sister in the women’s surgical ward, Auckland, was appointed subject to the approval of the Health Department. The second choice was Miss I. J. H. Boyes, matron of the Temuka cottage hospital.
