MEN’S REPRESENTATIVE MATCHES.

VISIT OF CANTERBURY TEAMS. The Mid-Canterbury Men’s Hockey Sub-Association played its last representative matches on the Domain on Saturday against junior, third grade and secondary schools’ teams from Canterbury. Mid-Canterbury won the match against the Canterbury juniors by the narrow margin or one point, and. Canterbury won the other two games. Details were: — Mid-Canterbury A 4, Canterbury junior 3. Lees. Canterbury Junior—Goal, T. Thompson ; backs, Wootten, J. Copplestone ; halves, L. Harland. W. Perry, N. Ryde; forwards, IT. Bennett, E. McCormick, J. Wormald, J. Olsen and K. Norman. Canterbury showed more polish in its movements and would; have piled rip an appreciable score, particularly in the first half, had it not- been for the outstanding performance *of Tinker (Mid-Canterbury) who rushed from Ins position at goal and intercepted many shots which promised to be certain goals. LADIES’ CHAMPIONSHIP.

EASTERN WINS THE TITLE. GISBORNE, Sept. 7. The New Zealand women’s hockey championship tournament concluded in fine weather. The attendance was about 2500. The ground was soft, but otherwise in good order. The principal match was between the section winners, Eastern Southland and South Otago for the championship, the former winning by 4 goals to About three-quarters of the way through the second half K. Scott (South Otago) had to retire after being struck heavily on the nose. She was not seriously injured. As a curtain-raised to the championship final, the runners-up in the A and B sections, Southland and Rualiine, met for the Annie Holden Cup. A very good game was seen, the teams being evenly matched. The defence on both sides was good, but Southland had the better combination, hit more cleanly, and cleared bettor in the circle, winning by 3 goals to 1. Rewcastle (2) and Bell scored for Southland, and Bahlberg for Ruahine.
