The recovery of general business in the yast year has not extended to the railways, according to the report of operations in the first half of 1930, issued to-day by the Inter-State Commerce Commission. Fifty class 1 railways, including the nation’s largest systems, not only failed to earn some 55,000,000 dollars fixed charges, but also sustained deficit in net income of 62,000,000 dollars. Only 11 showed a net income after depreciation and retirement had been taken into account. The aggregate income of fifty class 1 railways was 194,000,000 dollars, compared with 226,000,000 dollars for the corresponding period of 1934.
