THE DOMINION TOURNAMENT. ASHBURTON BEATEN IN SECTION FINAL. (Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, This Day. The Dominion basketball tournament was continued to-day in excellent weather. Results; — First Grade. Otago beat Poverty Bay, 324-4. Hawke’s Bay beat Waikato, 14-11. Second Grade. Section 1. Southland Minor beat Ashburton, 15-11, in the final. Manawatu beat North Auckland, 20-15. Bush beat Marlborough, 21-12. The final match, Southland Minor v. Ashburton provided one of the fastest and cleanest games played in the tournament. Ashburton needed only a draw to win the section but they lost chances through careless passing, while their goal shooting was inaccurate. Southland Minor showed (superiority in passing and shooting and were quicker and surer in their fielding. Section 2. Rotorua beat Nelson, 12-7. In the second grade final for the President’s Shield, South Canterbury drew with Southland Minor, 11 all.
