LATE QUEEN ASTRID.

HOMAGE AT THE CATAFALQUE.

TEN THOUSAND PEOPLE MOURN.

(United Press Association—Copyright)

(Received This Day, 12.20 pm.) BRUSSELS, August 30.

Ten thousand of her mourning subjects passed before Queen Astridi’s catafalque in the same room where lay King Albert 18 months ago.

Mute crowds awaited their turn: in the form of a queue 10 deep, while the vanguard slowly mounted the marble steps of the Palace. The procession included priests, school-children, old women, labourers and peasants. Two khaki-clad aids-de-camp guarded the bier, around which flowers were heaped. Death bells in every steeple began a mournful valediction with nightfall.
