NEW ZEALAHET ROAD CHAMPIONSHIP. W AIM ATE TO CHRISTCHURCH.

The Waimate-to-Christchurch road race, the cycling classic of the Demin-' ion, will he held on Saturday, October A, under the control of the North Canterbury centre'.of the New Zealand Athletic, Cycling and Axemen’s Union. The event, which has in the past Attracted entries from all over the Dominion, is to he run over a course of 14G miles. This is the longest cycling race held in New Zealand, and will carrv the title of Kicav Zealand road championship. In past years several champions have been brought out in this important race, amongst them being Phil O’Shea, the greatest road rider the Dominion has produced, Harry Watson, who represented New Zealand in the Victoiian Centenary Thousand, Dick and Jack Arnst, “Srniler” Smith, and other famous cyclists. The race was first held in 1899 and has been held on occasions since that date. A comprehensive, prize list has been drawn up'. The winner and the fastest time will be declared the road champions and will bo decorated with the blue ribbon in addition to a substantial cash prize. ,
