LEWIS GUN TO BE REPLACED.

The Lewis gun, used, by the infantry of the British Army for many years, will be replaced by a Czecho-Slovakian light machine gun announced Mr Douglas Hacking (Parliamentary Secretary to the War Office) in the House of Commons. It will be manufactured at the Royal Small Arms Factory at En. field.

The “Daily Telegraph” says the gun, which is named the Bren, can be used with a bipod or a tripod, and can also he fired from the shoulder. Its calibre is .303 in. and it fires 550 rounds a minute.

The gun is operated by gas pressure and jams less than the Lewis gun. It is also suitable for cavalry. With a bipod stand it weighs 21 pounds—six pounds less than the Lewis gun.
