(United Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 9.5 a.m.) GENEVA, July 31.
Following a long conversation between Mr R. A. Eden and M. Laval, the League of Nations unexpectedly met at five o’clock this evening privately. Although Abyssinia is not a member of the Council, the Ethiopian, Jeze, is expected to address it. The Council met in an atmosphere of appeasement. . The opinion is expressed that a compromise agreement will be reached before the week-end, providing for continuance of private negotiations among the French, Italian and British. Meanwhile, a fifth arbitrator will be ap. point! He will probably be M. Hammershjold (Sweden). Neither paity will in the meantime resort to force.
Baron Aloisi (Italy) was present, at the meeting of the Council, which decided to meet again at five o’clock tomorrow, probably in public.
