RAKAIA. At the social held after’ the induction of the Rev. H. J. W. Knights in St. Mark’s Anglican Church this week, solos were sung by Miss Acton and Mrs R. Stephenson, of Ashburton. Speeches of welcome were made by Archdeacon Petrie, the Rev. C. L. Wilson, Mr Page (Chertsey), and the chairman (Mr R. Breach). Supper was served by members of the church. LAURISTON. The fortnightly social and dance was held under the auspices of the Lauriston Social Club. A card match, Lyndhurst v. Lauriston, was won by the visitors by 432 points to 429. The competitions, which were controlled by Messrs H. Farquhar, H. Dalgety, D. McKenzie and A. Lemon, were won by Mrs K. Cook (Lyndhurst) 1, Miss E. Maidens 2, Mr A. Prattley (Lyndhurst) 1, Mr C. Pelvin 2. The prizes for the half-season’s aggregate went to Miss A. Hampton and Mr A. Goodwin. Music for the dancing was played: by Mr K. Cook (Lyndhurst), Mr E. McNeill being master of ceremonies. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Miss E. Lemon and Mr W. Lemon. STAVELEY. At the flag 500'evening the prizewinners were Mrs L. Hicks, jun., Mr W. Burgess and Mr R. Ferguson. HINDS. There was a large attendance at the fortnightly euchre party held in the Hinds School on evening in aid of the school funds. Prizes were won by Mrs McDonald and Mr J. Hickey.
