DRUNK IN CAR

MAN FINED AND DELICENSED.

THE DUTY OF THE COURTS.

STATEMENT BY MR MOSLEY. (Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, This Day. “It is useless making such an application,’’ said Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M., when asked to-day that the license of a man guilty of intoxication while in charge of a motor car be not affected. “There were 182 deaths last year owing to motor accidents,” Mr. Mosley said, “and many of these were caused by over-indulgence in liquor.” The Magistrate said that the Court must take a stand, and do its best to help to put down, if possible, the driving of cars by persons in a state of intoxication. He noticed that motorists’ organisations were doing their best to educate the public, and the Courts would have to do their part in punishing offenders of this class when they came before them. Defendant, Colin Robert Batte, an insurance agent, aged 25, was fined £lO, and his license was suspended till December 31.
