In the House of Commons the Minister of Agriculture (Mr W. E. Elliot) announced that the Government had decided that it was desirable, on agricultural grounds, to continue to assist the sugar-beet industry, hut it was necessary to set a limit to the volume of directly - assisted production. t

It had also been decided that beet sugar factory companies be amalgamated into a single corporation, and the Government proposed to invite the sugar-exporting Dominions and Colonies to examine with it the possibility of a joint endeavour to reopen international negotiations on the subject of the adjustment of supplies to the requirements of world markets, -State assistance being progressively diminished as the market conditions improved.—British Official Wireless.

Replying to a question, Mr Elliot said that the amalgamated sugar corporation will be owned by companies, but will he subject to comprehensive control.
