The South Canterbury Hunt Club’s annual steeplechasing meeting, ( held on the Washdyke racecourse on Saturday was a pronounced success in every way!. The weather was line with a cold breeze, and the attendance was the largest for some years past. The track was in springlike condition, which was reflected in the excellent times recorded for a winter programme. The racing provided keen contests, and in spite of the defeat of many favourites, money circulated freely. The sum of £756/ 10s was handled under the single pool system, as against £6072 at last year’s meeting, ,an increase of £1495 10s. Concluding results: —

Levels’Hack Handicap, of 70 sovs; six furlongs.—l Elbanor (E. Leckie) 1, 3 Golden Dart 2, 6 Invoice 3. Won by three lengths. Time, 1.15. Tlie concluding day of the Poverty Bay Turf Club’s meeting was held in fine weather, but slight rain fell during the last race. The track was in good order. The totalisator handled £4167 10s, against £4143 10s in 1933. No meeting was held last year. The total for the meeting was £7345 10s, against £7275 10s, an increase of £7O. Concluding results: —

VICTORIA PARK MEETING. SYDNEY, July 27. At the Victoria Park Racing Club’s meeting to-day the Novice Handicap, of 130 sovs, one mile, resulted in a dead-heat between O. T. Keeble’s ch g Golden Chance, by Lackham from Megalo, 3yrs, 9.0 (R. Reed), and Pettie’s Gift, 6.11 (E. Richards). Salted Almond 7.10 (E. Ross) was third. There were 11 starters. The time, 1.39 J, was a race record. Gladswood finished second in the Victoria Park Handicap, and Watch Oflicer was unplaced in the Brush Hurdle Race. Waikare was third in the first division of the Flying Handicap, in which Prince Pombal was unplaced. The jockey, R. Maxwell, was suspended for a month for not exercising sufficient control over Kersil, winner of the third division of the Flying Handicap. Mr Neil McKenna, owner of Sixteen Annas, a winner at Moonee Valley today, is also part owner of Delwood, winner of the Brush. Hurdle Race at Victoria Park. All the jockeys injured in last Wednesday’s smash are recovering.
