TARIFF ALTERATIONS
AN INDUSTRY THREATENED; (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, July 26. , The proposed alteration to the tariff relating to motor vehicles in a knocked down condition has caused epneern to the proprietors of a flourishing Christchurch factory, the Lace Web Company, Ltd. This company has developed ail extensive business in supplying seat Spring assemblies for cars being put together in New Zealand. It is stated that the proposed change will permit the importation of seat springs in frames, and that this will destroy the New Zealand industry. In the last year the staff has been increased from 19 to 60, and the manager stated today that last week plans had been considered for trebling the capacity of the factory.
