PEDESTRIAN KILLED BY VAN.

Mi- Daly Weigel, a single man, aged 24, formerly of the Royal Navy, died in the. Christchurch Hospital this morning as a result of injuries received/ when he was knocked down by a van at the intersection of Fitzgerald Avenue and Lichfield Street at eight o’clock this meaning.

A drowning fatality occurred overnight, the body of Mr Francis Stanbury, aged 60 years, a single man, being found in the Tutaenui stream this morning in circumstances indicating that death was due to ail accident.
Deceased was an employee of Henderson’s flourmill for over 20 years. He had many friends, but no relative in New Zealand.
MAN KILLED BY TRAIN.

Mr Thomas Menzies, an elderly man, was struck by the Kingston-Invercar-gill train as it. was drawing into the Lumsden station at 4 o’clock this afternoon and gravely injured. He did not regain consciousness, death occurring at 6.30 p.m. Mr Menzies was crossing from the business area to the .other side of the town by the pathway traversing the railway line at the northern end of the station when the train drew in. While he was on the railway: track the whistle from the locomotive sounded, and it is believed that he was undecided what to do. He was bending forward as the train struck him, and be was thrown on the platform. The train was not going very fast at the time. Mr Menzies, who was a widower, was one of the oldest residents of the district.
