The newspaper “Asaki Skirabun” says that the army is submitting to Cabinet a programme of national de fence involving the outlay of £60,000,000 in four years, of which £3,334,000 will be devoted to doubling the Air Force, £13,333,000 to modernising the army with the latest tanks, automatic rifles, machine-guns, motor transport and anti-aircraft equipment, and £13,333,000 to increasing the efficiency of the army in Manchuria.
