(From Our Own Correspondents.) METHVEM. » There was a good attendance at the Methodist Church, Methven, last evening, when the Rev. A. N. Fiebeig, of Timiaru, delivered a most interesting address on the Home Mission work of the Church. He dealt at length with the work of deaconesses, the part-time workers and home missionaries, the difficulties under which they labour, and the far-reaching effect of the work they are doing. He appealed for all the support it was possible to> give. On behalf of church members, Mr H. G. Ayers thanked Mr Feiberg for his address. Afterwards a social hour was spent, and a dainty supper was provided by the members of the Ladies Guild. Two vocal solos were sung by the Rev. R. Mills, Mrs A. Guthrie being accompaniste. A meeting of the committee of the Methven Cricket Club was held on Tuesday evening, Mr W. J. Owen presiding. It was arranged to hold a dance on. October s*'(race day). The matter of holding a tug-of-war was discussed, hut this was held over until the annual meeting. Reports received point to the club having a successful season. A meeting of the Methven District High 'School Ex-Pupils’ Association was held in the school on Monday evening, when there was a good attendance. Arrangements for celebrating the first decade of the school with a ball on August 29 were completed. Various sub-committees were appointed, and final arrangements were left in their hands. RAKAIA. The annual meeting of the South Rakaia Public Library was held, with Mr C. Shannon presiding. The bal-ance-sheet showed a credit of £lO. The secretary reported that four dozen new books had been added the library. The election of officers’resulted as follows: —Chairman and treasurer, Mr C. Shannon; secretary, Mr R. Breach; committee, Mrs Newman, Miss T. Clark/ Messrs H. Conway, J. Barnes and V. McGeorge. It was decided to paint and repair the buildings.
