SURGEON’S FEAT ON A LINER. SHIP ROLLING IN SEA. Passengers who arrived by the liner Orsova at Sydney recently were loud in their praise of an operation peiformed by the ship’s surgeon, Dr Alexander Inglis, under extremely trying conditions, when the vessel was ciossing the Indian Ocean. A male passenger suddenly became seriously ill with acute appendicitis. Tlio ship was rolling severely, having encountered severe monsoonal weather hut Dr. Inglis, believing that delay was likely to prove fatal to the patient, deckled upon an emergency operation. This he carried out singlehanded! under the most difficult conditions, for the weather was so had that the ship’s hospital sister was too seasick to render any assistance. The operation was completely successful, and the passenger had made a complete recovery by the time the Orsova reached Sydney.
