SERIOUS CHARGE
magistrate refuses bail. (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, July 24. Late last night Detective-Sergeant Walsh and three detectives executed search warrants on the residence and office of George Frederick Hewer, aged 49 years, an unregistered medical practitioner. They arrested Hewei, and to-day at the Police Court he was charged that, on July 23, he unlawfully used an instrument on a young woman. The police obtained a remand', and when an application was made for bail, • Senior-Sergeant Hall strongly opposed it, stressing the seuousness of the charge and the fact that the young woman was in hospital. The Magistrate (Mr McKean) refused to allow hail.
