MAORIS’ PLEASING SHOWING. COMMENT IN SYDNEY PRESS. (Received This Day, 10.25 a.m.) . SYDNEY, This Day. Commenting on the Maoris’ match at Dub bo, the “Sydney Morning Herald” says; “Playing on loose red soil was an experience which the Maoris did not relish. They complained at half-time that the clouds of dust which rose in the scrums so obscured' their vision as to affect the form of the hooker, Mitchell. The Maoris, however, became used to the conditions, and in the second spell they were not greatly troubled. In a rather rugged game, with much hard tackling, the Maoris did not produce the brilliant open plaj’ expected of them. Nevertheless, they scored 10 tries, while their opponents failed to gain one.” •Stuart Perkins, writing in the “Daily Telegraph,” says: “The Maoris were perceptibly upset by the state of the ground, but when allowance is made for the strange conditions the Maoris’ showing was pleasing, and they now go on to Sydney for the match against New South Wales full of confidence.”
