SERIOUS WOUNDS
A YOUNG MARRIED WOMAN. ARREST OF HER HUSBAND. TRAGIC END TO HOLIDAY. (Per Press Association). PALMERSTON NORTH, July 24. A young married woman, Elsie Elizabeth Symes, has been admitted to the hospital in a serious condition as the result of a pea-rifle bullet in the stomach. Her husband, Manley Symes, aged 22 years, is in custody on a charge of assault, causing bodily harm. Both were on holiday at a farm near Palmerston North, from Paliiatua. THE ACCUSED MAN. SHAREMILKER ON A FARM. ♦ PAHIATUA, This Day. Manley Symes, who was arrested at Whakarongo on a charge of assault on his wife, who was shot in the stomach with a pea rifle, being critically ill, * s share-milking on Mr David Crewe s farm at Mangaramarama close to i ahiatua. He came from Foxton 18 months ago, and was at present on holiday, a brother minding the farm in his absence. . Symes, who is a member of the Salvation Army, had signed a new contract for the coming season and expected to he back shortly. His employer always regarded him as a goodtempered industrious young man, who seemed well satisfied with his job, doing quite satisfactorily on the farm.
