COLD WIND AND NO SUNSHINE. A cold south-easterly wind and no sunshine made conditions in Ashburton bleak to-day after a frost of 10.2 degrees intensity this morning. Rain fell about 10 o’clock, but cleared later. The barometer is rising again after a suddeft fail on Tuesday. It stood at 29.61 inches this morning, compared with 29.41 inches yesterday. Maximum and minimum temperatures yesterday were 48 degrees and 26.6 degrees respectively. TO-DAY’S FORECAST. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Government Meteoralagist, at neon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather: — 1 General inference: The centre of the depression covering New Zealand crossed the North Island last night and this morning whs located north of the Bay of Plenty. The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru is as follows: — Moderate to> strong southerly winds. Weather cold and changeable with scattered showers and snow on some of the ranges. Seas moderate to rather rough.
