OBITUARY.
MRS JOAN JAMIESON.
fit*—- . The death occurred at her residence, Suffolk Street, yesterday afternoon of Mrs Joan Jamieson, the last of the initial settlers of the Treyorton district. Mrs Jamieson was in her 86th year. Mrs Jamieson, who was born in the Old Country, came to Ashburton in her early years, when Ashburton was a mere 'huddle of buildings, with her husband, Mr Robert Jamieson, wellknown for many years as a dairyman in Trevorton, who died about three years ago. With her husband, Mrs Jamieson suffered all the hardships with which the pioneer settlers were faced. When she went to live at Trevorton the area had only recently been named after Dr. J. E. Trevor, the second medical man to practice in Ashburton. During the war Mrs Jamieson was one of the most enthusiastic of the women workers and she gave generously to patriotic purposes. She was a keen supporter of the 'Church of Christ, and she had a wide circle of friends. For some years Mrs Jamieson had been unable to leave her home. She leaves four daughters, Mesdames J. Walls (Tinwald) and A. C. Cameron (Chertsey) and Misses R. and L. Jamieson (Ashburton).
