Mr J. H. Muirhead, of Lagmhor, accompanied by Miss Jean Muirhead, has left on a visit to Australia.

The Rev. F. A. Parry, Baptist minister at Hamilton, has accepted a call to take charge of the Bax>tist Church’s extension work in the South Island.

The Ven. Archdeacon A. J. Petrie, who has been visiting Wellington, where he received an efficiency service decoration at Government House on Monday, returned to Ashburton to-day.

. At the annual meeting of the Ashburton branch of the Farmers’ Union this afternoon a vote of sympathy was accorded to Mr J. H. Papworth in the death of his son.

Congratulations on their re-election to the Ashburton Borough Council were extended to Dr. J. Connor and Mr E. Buchanan by- other members of the Ashburton Technical High School Board of Managers at the heard meeting last evening.

Mr A. L. Jones, yvlio asked that his resignation as chairman of the Ashburton Technical High School Board of Managers be accepted at the Board’s April meeting but agreed that it he held over until last evening, will retain office until the end of the board’s year in August. He handed in his resignation last evening, but an amendment to a motion for its acceptance, to the effect that lie continue in office until August, yvas carried.

The resignation of Miss E. Aiken from the position of head of the domestic science department at the Ashburton Technical High School was accepted with regret by the Board of Managers at its meeting last evening. Miss Aiken, who has been on the staff for about 11 years, thanked the board for its kindness and consideration, and the chairman (Mr A. L. Jones) paid, a tribute to Miss Aiken’s faithful service. She was, he said, highly thought of by both staff and students and her qualifications were indisputable. It was decided to record: appreciation of Miss Aiken’s work and to write thanking her for what she had done at the school..
