EX-CHAMPION H. STEVENSON. It will come as something of a shock for most billiards lovers to know that Harry Stevenson, one of the most accomplished and attractive players to wield a cue, has fallen on lean times financially. Stevenson won the professional billiards championship in 1900, 1909-10-11, and it was in 1912 that he made his record break of 1016. The war came to interrupt a great career. With sons serving in the Army, Stevenson devoted the years 1914-18 to playing matches for charity in all parts of the country, and was responsible for raising considerable sums. Since the war, matters have not gone well with him, and a crisis threatens which his good friends in the billiards world are determined to avert. s In his heyday Stevenson was always ready with a. helping hand, and many sportsmen who have been delighted with his artistry on the green cloth will want to be identified with the fund which is being organised to help him. Tom Newman is the prime mover and treasurer of the fund, and all donations should be sent to him. At a recent meeting of the British Billiards Council it was unanimously decided that the council should associate itself with the fund, and a letter accompanying a cheque for two guineas expresses the hope that a heipiul sum may be raised.
