MASKS NECESSARY.
THE AMERICAN DUST STORMS. SEVERAL FATALITIES CAUSED. (United Press Association— Copyright^. NEW YORK, April 27. With five deaths reported in the dust-storm area in the past week, the Red Cross Society is directing volunteer women workers in the construction of cloth dust-masks (says telegram from Kansas City l ). Physicians declare that the dust has undoubtedly aggravated ordinary pneumonia and influenza, with resultant fatalities. It is doubted, however, if there is any specific disease such as “dust pneumonia,” which is popularly believed to be a cause of many deaths. Rains recently have relieved conditions in some localities, but great dustelouds are still swirling in parts of Colorado, New Mexico and Kansas. Volunteers have completed the distribution of some 10,000 masks. It is hoped to speed up production to 5000 a day and to distribute 100,000 masks as soon as possible.
