CLASH WITH POLICE
PEASANTS IN RAJPUTANA. TROUBLE OVER TAX COLLECTION ATTACK ON AN OFFICIAL. (United Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 9.25 a.m.) CALCUTTA, April 28. Thirty-seven Gat peasants were* killed and a large number seriously wounded in a clash with police in the village of Kadan, in Rajputana State. The police official, with an armed escort, was supervision the tax collections when the party was attacked by an enraged mob of thousands of peasants, armed with scythes and knives. The police opened fire. The official and several police were hurt.
Over 100 rioters have been arrested. The situation at present is tense. State troopers are patrolling the district. '
Leaders of the Jat community telegraphed to the Viceroy, requesting his intervention.
