PERSONAL.

The Rev. J. Featherston, of Christchurch, who conducted the services at the Baring Square Methodist Church yesterday, returned to the city this morning.

Captain. N. E. Bicknell (officer in charge of the Ashburton Salvation Army Corps) is attending the Salvation Army Congress in Wellington. He is accompanied by Mrs Bicknell.

The Rev. R. H. Blair, of Owaka, Southland, who was stationed as a Presbyterian Home Missionary at Wakanuf many years ago, is visiting Ashburton.

Mr H. R. D. Porter (a vice-president of the Ashburton Rugby "Union) will leave to-morrow to represent the Union at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Union in Wellington on Thursday.

Reference to the death of Mr D. Clark was made at the meeting of the executive of the Ashburton branch of the Labour Party on Saturday evening when members stood in silence out of 1 respect to his memory. Members paid a tribute to his valuable services in the interests of the, party.

The Rev. D. C. Herron, of Knox Presbyterian Church, Dunedin, will visit Ashburton next week-end to conduct the anniversary services at Bt. Andrew’s Church on Sunday. He will address the combined Bible Classes in the afternoon when the annual Day of Prayer will be observedj The Rev. R. S. Watson will preach at Knox Church on Sunday.

At a meeting of the directors of the Ashburton Loan and Investment Society and Bank of Deposit held at the close of the annual meeting of shareholders on Saturday evening, Mr W. Bryant was re-elected chairman, and Mr F. A. Hickman was re-appointed auditor. Mr Bryant has been chairman of directors for over 20 years.

The Very Rev. A. Lysaght, S.M., 8.A., has been appointed rector of St. Patrick’s College, Wellington, in succession to the Very. Rev. A. J. Cullen, B.Sc., who is resigning because of serious eye trouble. At the request of the Provincial, Father Cullen remained in charge of the College for the jubilee celebrations. Father Lysaght is an old boy of ,St. Patrick’s College.

Mr W. S. Pratt (formerly headmaster of the Allenton School) who has been in charge of the Reefton District High School for the last five and a half years, has received notice of liis promotion to the position of headmaster at the Marlborough High School. Mr Pratt will leave for Blenheim in May, and will take up his new position after the term holidays.
