THEFT AT MEAT WORKS

MEN PLACED ON PROBATION. (Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, April 26. Alexander C. Asher, Gilbert Mahoney and Arthur Mullis were jointly charged to-day with the theft of three dressed pigs and about 1001 bof pork fillets, valued at £8 7s, from the meat works at Ngahauranga. It was stated that Asher had been employed at the works for 14 years. He was a married man with six children. Mullis was a married man with three children and bad been in employment at Petone tor 12 years. Mahoney was a single man employed by a Petone carrying firm. Counsel asked that the matter should be regarded as a drunken prank. The men had been drinking at Petone and Asher suggested that tney should go to the Ngahauranga works to look at the pigs of which he was in charge.

The accused were admitted to probation for 18 months.
