SERIOUS INJURY TO ANKLE. BAND-SAW LEAPS OFiT PULLEY. (Per Press Association.) BLENHEIM, This Day. While operating a, band-saw in his workshop at Picton yesterday Mr Ernest Lane, the well-known boat builder, sustained serious injuries to his ankle. The band-saw jumped ott the pulley and wrapped round Mr Lane ; s leg, severing the flesh and tendons and affecting the bone MiLane was operated on and his condition is satisfactory.

MOTORIST'S ESCAPE. AUCKLAND, April 26. A light sedan car crashed into a heavy wooden tramway pole at - o'clock this morning with such force that the post was split in two tor the greater part of its length and the car wrecked. .. ~ . The driver, Mr John A. Blandford, a visitor from Wellington, who had liired the car, had an astonishing escape from death. Nearby residents who were aroused by the crash, found him conscious and able to talk, but bleeding from injuries to his head. He was admitted to hospital «and underwent an operation.

CYCLIST FATALLY INJURED. HASTINGS, April 26. Bruce Summersby, aged 20, of Hastings, was fatally injured when knocked from his cycle by a motor-car driven by Mr John Pender, of Waipukurau on Wednesday evening. Summersby was cycling with a girl friend when they were overtaken by Mr Pender just after the latter had passed another car, the lights of which dazzled him so that he did not see the cyclists until almost on them. Summersby was taken to hospital, but died yesterday morning.

WATERSIDER DROWNED. WELLINGTON, April 26. Artificial respiration was carried out for over an hour, but failed to bring signs of life when the body of a watersider, Mr Patrick Morris, aged about 60, was rescued from the harbour this afternoon. He stumbled on the wharf and fell into the water opposite Number 9 shed.

THROAT CUT BY WINDSCREEN. DUNEDIN, April 26. As a result of a motor-car getting out of control on the Waitati side of Mount Cargill to-day, a passenger lost his life through having his throat cut when he came in contact with the shattered windscreen. The victim was Mr John Gray, who lived at 14 Frame Street, North East Valley. Another passenger, Mr John Robert Sheddan, leapt out of the car before the accident occurred and escaped with slight injuries to his head and hand. The driver, Mr Peter Garden, of Dunedin, was uninjured. The three men were goldminers and were on their way to Pateroa where they were employed.
