TRIBUTES TO MISS R. MASON
WORK AT ASHBURTON HIGH SCHOOL..
The resignation of Miss R. Mason as senio rmistress at the Ashburton High School as from May 25 was accepted with regret by the Board oi Governors at its meeting this morning. Hign appreciation of Miss Mason's work was expressed by members. In his report the headmaster (Mr &. \ Cockroft) referred to Miss Mason s appointment, on promotion, as senior mistress at the South Otago High School, Balclutha. He said that she had been an excellent senior mistress at the school, and since her appointment to that position the tone of the girls' section had greatly improved. "We shall be sorry to lose her services," concluded Mr Cockroft, "for both in the school and in its outside activities her record is one of which to he proud." Members agreed that Miss Mason had been an excellent teacher, and it was decided to write to her expressing the board's sincere appreciation of her work at the school. Sho has been on the" staff for eight years, having been senior mistress for the last four. In connection with the vacancy on the staff, the headmaster stated that six applications for the position of a D grade male teacher had been received, but he had not yet considered them Applications had been called for a male teacher because there were more boys at the school new, and such an addition to the staff would be in the best interests. Mr D. A. Smith was promoted to the position of a C grade teacher on. the staff, complimentary reference being made to his work. A sub-committee consisting of the chairman (Mr J. W- Bowden), Dr. G. I. Miller and the headmaster was set up to make the appointment of a D grade teacher from the applicants.
