THE WEATHER.

UNSETTLED CONDITIONS. Light rain which fell in Ashburton during the early hours of yesterday morning continued until about midday, and eight points were recorded up to 9 o'clock, with a further four points up to mid-day. The sun broke through the clouds in the afternoon and shone for several .hours. The rain was confined to the town area, ncaie falling near the. coast yesterday morning. The night was clear and cold, and one degree of frost was experienced this morning. Conditions were very bright at an early hour, but the sky was overcast most of the day. The temperature was fairly mild. The barometric pressure this morning was 29.77 inches, the same figure as that yesterday morning. Extreme temperatures yesterday and last night were 56.6 degrees and 37.2 degrees, and those on Wednesday 67.2 degrees and 51.8 degrees.

TO-DAY'S FORECAST. (Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, This \Day. The Government Meteorologist, _at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather:— General inference: An anti-cyclone covers the north Tasman Sea, while a series of slight depressions is passing in the south. The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru is as follows: Moderate northerly winds, backing to southerlies befoie morning. Weather fair to fine and mild at first, but some scattered light showers and cooler temperatures with southerly change. Seas smooth to moderate.
