Mr J. W. Bowden is spending a short holiday in Auckland.
Pastor J. A. Tyrrell-Baxter, of Oamaru, who was a visitor to Ashburton yesterday, left by the first express train for the south this morning.
Colonel J. Hargest, M.P., who was the chief speaker at the Anzac Day observance in Ashburton; yesterday afternoon, returned to Invercargill by train this morning.
The Rev. L. P. Bryan, of Ashburton, was elected a vice-president of the Canterbury Young Men's Bible Class Union at the annual meeting held during the Easter camp at Kirwee.
Mr C. O'Malley, of the School of Art, Christchurch, will act as relieving art master at the Ashburton High School during the absence of Mr John Oakley, who has left for England. Mr M. Butterick, of Wakanui, who was appointed by the Board of Governors to relieve Mr Oakley, was not available.
As a tribute to the late Mr F. Z. D. Ferriman, who always took a very keen interest in the welfare of returned soldiers, a wreath was laid on his grave at the Ashburton cemetery yesterday morning by the executive of the Ashburton branch of the Returned Soldiers' Association at the conclusion of the Anzac Day service at the soldiers' plot.
