FIFTY YEARS SYNE. (From the "Guardian," Mar. 25, 1885.) Meeting of Domain Board.—The Ashburton .Public Domain Board met at the Arcade Chambers yesterday afternoon. .Present: Messrs E. G. Wright (chairman), ~D. McLean, G. St. Hill, and J. Orr. Thirty-nine applications were received for the post of caretaker. A sub-committee consisting of the .chairman and Messrs St. Hill, Orr and MeLean, was appointed to regulate .the work of the caretaker. During the meeting it transpired that the Board had, not met for over three years, from 1875 to 1879. This information created much amusement among the members present. Ram and Ewe Fair.—The annual ram and ewe fair takes place at Tinwald to-day and the holding space of the yards is likely to be tested to the utmost, as somewhere about 50,000 sheep and rams have to be penned. The attendance of the public and dealers promises to be large, and it is not often that such a quantity of fine sheep are got together for sale. The sale will commence at 11 o'clock.

TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO. " (From the "Guardian," Mar., 25', 1910.) Governor's Visit.—After his Excellency the Governor (Lord Plunket) had left the Highbank School yesterday, the parents and friends of the children were invited to attend at the schoolroom where Mr G. Stqckdill (chairman of the School Committee) presented prizes for regular attendance during the past year. Cheers were given for the teachers and the members of the School Committee. Ladies' Golf Club.—At.a meeting..of the Ashburton Ladies' Golf Club the; following officers for the year were elected:—Captain, Mrs G. H. Buchanan; honorary secretary, Miss M. Roberts: committee, Mrs D. Wood,' Mrs Muflin, and Miss Muirson. It was decided to have the opening day early in April. Apple Trees in Bloom.—The mildness of the present season is shown by .the apple trees, which, in a few cases, are blooming a second time; and, in one or two instances, have formed fruit.
