COMBINED CARNIVAL

BAND AND FANCIERS’ SOCIETY. PROCEEDS TO BE SHARED EQUALLY. A largely attended meeting of members of tile Ashburton Fanciers’ Society and delegates from the Ashburton Silver Band was held last evening. Mr W. H. Robinson (president of tne Fanciers’ Society) presided. It was decided to hold a carnival a the showgrounds on Saturday, April 6 the proceeds to be divided equally between the Fanciers’ Society and the Band. , ... Mr G. V. Furby stated that he had been assured by the president of the Ashburton Rugby Union (Mr J. C. C. MeLachlan), that no objection woulcl be raised by the Union to the use of the grounds on this date, provided the playing grounds were not used and no hindrance to the work of getting the grounds in order for the opening date of the Rugby competitions was occaThe following conveners and officials were appointed to form an executive: Joint secretaries, Messrs G. V. Fuiby and E. R. Hopwood; joint treasurers, Messrs D. G. Smith and J. Wyllie; grounds, Mr C. H. F. Maynard; piogramme, Mr G. HI. Nicoll; side shows, Mr W. R- Tucker; horse events and buck-jumping, Mr 0. Digby; guessing competitions, Mr T. Rattray; refreshments and ice creams, Mr I. Crum; procession, Messrs G. H. Nicoll, W. R. Tucker, secretaries and treasurers; advertising, joint secretaries; transport officer, Mr L. Porter.. The meeting was very enthusiastic, and 'from the keenness displayed a good afternoon’s programme is assured. A hearty vote of thanks was passed by the Fanciers’ Society in appreciation of the Band’s action in agreeing to combine with the Society. Mr Tucker, on behalf of the Band, assured the Society that with the large number of supporters from the band the function should be a great success. It was decided to put on pony trots and jumping events for children,, and several novelty equestrian features, besides various sideshows.
