POULTRY PRODUCERS

BOARD'S PROPOSALS OUTLINED. TINWALD BRANCH FORMED. A series of meetings has been convened this week by the Ashburton branch of the New Zealand Poultry Producers' Federation, and the committee was fortunate in having Mr S. F. Marshall (the Canterbury-Westland representative of the Poultry Board) and other prominent poultry producers from Christchuuch to address the gatherings. Two meetings were held on Monday, at Waterton and at Hinds, and others at Tinwald and Ashburton last evening. At the Tinwald meeting, the Poultry Board's proposals were fully explained by Mr Marshall, and Mr T. B. Grant, a well-known poultry farmer from Chvistchurch, urged those present to give their full support to the Board's organisation proposals. In doing so he predicted that if advantage were taken of these proposals, producers would in a comparatively short time be receiving infinitely better returns for their produce. The meeting was presided over by Mr P. A. Cornish, and a branch of the Federation, was formed, with the following officers and committee: President, Mr A. E. Sayillj secretary and treasurer, Mr H. F. Ross; committee, Messrs P. A. Cornish, P". A. Gardner, F. E. Dillon, Mrs M. Hampton and Miss Seaton. Mr H. Ross proposed a vote of thanks to Mr Marshall for his interesting address on the past and future proposals of the Board. Stimulation of Interest. At the meeting held in Ashburton Mr I. H- Penrose (chairman of the branch), who presided over a good attendance of poultry producers, stated that an effort was being made to stimulate interest in the Federation among those engaged in the industry. The chairman then introduced MiMarshall, who addressed the meeting upon several problems affecting the industry, and urged those present to interest themselves in advancing the Board's proposals for organising the producers. It was plainly evident from the speaker's remarks that considerable improvement could be effected and prices stabilised to an appreciable extent if producers would take advantage of the Board's organisation proposals. Considerable discussion took place concerning marketing conditions in Ashburton, and Mr Marshall said that if producers would take the necessary steps to improve the quality of eggs offered for sale locally there was little doubt that the demand would increase and better prices would be realised. Messrs T. S. Dove and W. Turner, of Christchurch, also referred to the desirability of 'improving the quality of eggs. The speakers were accorded a vote of thanks and before, the meeting closed a number of new members were enrolled. Mr Marshall will address a, meetin cr at Methven this evening and will be" at Chertsey and Wakamu tomorrow.
