NO LICENSE NECESSARY. REQUIREMENT AS TO QUANTITY. (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. No license Is necessary for the sale of cider in New Zealand, provided it is sold in quantities of not less than two gallons and is not consumed on the premises. That is a decision by a magistrate (Mr E. D. Mosley) in what amounted to a test case. Defendant was Bernard Thomas Turner, of Woolston, who was charged that on February 7, he sold liquor without a license. Constables bought two bottles of cider which contained 15.48 per cent of proof spirit. Defendant pleaded guilty. He was fined £2 for selling cider in less than two gallons, but the Magistrate refused an order entitling the police to confiscate the liquor and utensils seized.
