LAND SPEED RECORD.
SIR M. CAMPBELL DISSATISFIED. PERFECT BEACH AWAITED. (United Press Association—Copyright). DAYTONA BEACH, March 8. Sir Malcalm Campbell will wait for the full moon tides late in March for another attempt in the Bluebird to make a record of 300 miles an hour. About March 20 he hopes that the beach will have reached a condition near perfection. Dissatisfied with what he considered his poor showing of 276.816 miles an hour for a measured mile, in the record attempt yesterday, Sir Malcolm has decided to remain until late March in the hope of getting a flawless course. He said: “Yesterday’s run was the worst ride I have ever had. Although the beach was smooth for the first half of the way down, it was quite rough from that point on. Coming north it was necessary to pick up speed ovei the rougher surface. I thought that I was gone when the car swerved, but the Bluebird came back nobly.” DARING AND SKILL PRAISED. LONDON, March 8. The newspapers pay warm tributes to Sir Malcolm Campbell’s daring and skill, and refer to the value to the British motor industry of the data lus high-speed achievements have produced.
