DAY OF PRAYER.
WOMEN'S WORLD MOVEMENT. OBSERVANCE IN ASHBURTON. The women's world day of prayer for missionary enterprise was observed in Ashburton yesterday with a meeting in St. Andrew's Old Church. It was well attended and the president (Mrs R. S. Watson) was in the chair. _ The meeting took the form of intercession and praise for the various fields of missionary work in .which the New Zealand churches are interested. The work being carried out and the labourers were referred to by representatives of the churches in Ashburton. Mrs Watson spoke for the Presbyterian schemes, Mrs A. J. Petrie for the Anglican, mentioning the Rev. C W. Haskell in India and Sister A. Samuels in Melanesia, Mrs A. Beck dealt with the Baptist activities ■in East Bengal, and Mrs S. J. Buchler for the Church of Christ. Mrs Captain N. E. Bicknell (Salvation Army) spoke of the Army's world-wide work and drew attention to the labours of New Zealand officers in foreign fields, particularly that of Dr. B. Cook, and Sister Mildred outlined the Methodist Church's enterprise in the Solomon Islands.
Suitable hymns were sung during the meeting.
