MAJESTIC THEATRE In “Blossom Time,” based on the life and music of Franz Sclmbert, showing finally to-night at the Majestic Theatre, Richard Tauber gives a masterly portrayal of the great composer, and is supported by excellent acting by each member of the cast, magnificent scenes, a rich spice of humour and an enjoyable story. The setting is in Vienna, in 1820, when Schubert, the schoolmaster, sang of his hopeless love for Vicki, the beautiful daughter of a dancing master, with whom Schubert lived. The action is in keeping with the’ subject, and the players_succeed in carrying the observer back through the years to live in the city of dancing and song. There is a long and interesting programme of! small features. BAND PROGRAMME. The Ashburton Salvation Army Band visited Tuarangi Old Men’s Home yesterday and gave its monthly programme of musical numbers and selected hymn tunes, including the foliowing:—March, “Ashburton” (Scctney); selection, “Fighting On” (Marshal); hymn arrangement, “Nearer, My God, to Thee” f(Arr. Gullidge); march, “Beaumont” (Dickens); hymns, “Melbourne”, and “Adelaide” (Gullidge).
