METROPOLITAN TROTS. INDIANAPOLIS MAKES NEW RECORD. (Special to the "Guardian.") OHRJSTCHURCH, This Day. The Royal meeting held under the auspices oi' the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club at Addington on Saturday was an outstanding success. The weather, though threatening and overcast during the morning, improved as the day progressed, and the conditions were pleasant when the racing began, 'ihere was a very large attenaance, visitors- being present from many parts of the Dominion. His Royal Highness the Duke of Gloucester arrived just before the fourth race. The successful attempt by Indianapolis on the mile record for Australia and New Zealand was a popular feature of the entertainment, and the financial returns were eminently satisfactory. For the seven events the sum of £18,222 10s was invested on the totalisators, as against £15,169 10s for eight races last year. The course was in good order, but it was not as fast as it has been on niuinei'ous' occasions.
