NO BROADCAST

SPEECH BY LADY BLEDISLOE. WOMEN TOO LATE WITH REQUEST *Per Press Association). CHRISTCHURCH, November 12. The broadcasting authorities last week refused a request to broadcast a speech by Lady Bledisloe to a gathering of women's organisations. On i Thursday Lady Bledisloe addressed a meeting of the women's organisations of Christchuireh arranged by the Christchurch nraneh of the National Gbuncil of Women, and permission was oh' tained from her Excellency to have the address broadcast. The proposi;tion was put to the authorities Of 3YA Chnstchurch, but they declined to put the speech on the air. Mr J. Mackenzie (station director, 3YA, said this evening that there was an interesting story behind the incident. One woman who was concerned with the arrangements told the women's organisations that the station would be glad to arrange for the broadcast. Nothing was said to the station, however, but the women went on with their part of the arrangements. The day before Lady Bledisloe was to speak a request was received by telephone for a broadcast to be made. Mr Mackenzie said it was then too late to make any arrangements because the liands of the station were full. The incident created a good deal of trouble, said Mr Mackenzie, because many women's organisations in other parts of the country were advised by telegraph to listen for the broadcast. He hoped t|hat Lady, Bledisloe on her. next visit to Ghristchiw.ch would consent to broadcast a message 0 to the women of New Zealand.
