CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Prior to the professional' boxing contest between George Wright (New Zealand bantam-weight champion) and Dal Costa (championship of New South Wales) on Saturday evening, g. Halves ((•Christchurch) met C. Brosnahan (Ashiburton) in a professional featherweight bout. J.t ended: at the beginning of the third round, when Hawes knocked Brosnalian out. . Hawes was far too clever for Brosnalian, and completely outclassed him.

The weights were: Hawes, Bst d-J-lb; Brosnalian. Bst 12-2-lb. The first round was fairly quiet, with Hawes even then looking for a bjg hit, but failing to land cleanly with the left hook which he likes. In the second, Hawes went at his man like a tiger, and two heavy ones to the ribs bad Brosnahan looking unhappy. The Ashburton boy never took the offensive. At the end of the round a terrific-over-hand right caught Brosnahan flush on the jaw, and as he fell Howes hooked him with the left, Brosnahan’s head hitting the canvas hard. He was right out, but the gong went at two seconds. It is worthy of note that the refereo did not hear the very loud gong, and went on counting, reached 10, and pointed to Hawes. Then the news was broken to him. Brosnahan’s seconds had him on his feet when .the third round started, but he was still out for all (practical purposes, and another right sent him to the canvas for five. Still another heavy one to the jaw and Brosnahan was well and truly out. Mr A. Stacey refereed.
